Service Description
Take your throwing to the next level. Learn ways to work out problem areas and sticking points in your throwing technique. Gain confidence and experience more joy in your clay work.
This class is designed to help students work out the kinks in their throwing techniques. Exercises will focus on getting to know the capabilities of clay, using the combined power of the wheel and the body, and being mindful while working at the wheel to master basic shapes and produce technically sound pots. Through demonstration, observation, discussion and practice, class activities will focus on both group participation and individual students’ needs.
The objective of the class will be primarily on throwing practice. At least for the first few classes, the emphasis will be to produce pots that will be evaluated for improvement and not every piece will be saved for finishing. If in the making, students produce forms they want to save and finish, they can do so.
Planned activities throughout the 6-week period:
Asking students where they feel they need improvement
Observe students throwing
Demonstrating basic shapes
Group throwing exercises and evaluation of forms
Demonstrating alternative problem-solving techniques
Lots of practice
Range/Skill Level:
Advanced beginner and intermediate
