Service Description

This course is designed to provide experience in a variety of surface design exploration explorations! Experiment with several unique decoration techniques and engage in discussion of the clay surface as a canvas, planning and designing the elements to work together as a cohesive piece. Expand your ceramic decoration repertoire! All materials and supplies are included. Week 1. Form design goals and begin construction of pieces Week 2. Finishing techniques for prior week's work, incl. carving and burnishing, then more hands-on creation of forms. Week 3. Illustration design planning. Making plates/platters. Week 4. Finish work, then greenware and bisque transfer techniques, including decals, tracing paper, white paper, and shelf-liner. Week. 5. Illustrations with pencil, watercolors (SMUGS), & underglazes, plus blowing bubbles. Week 6. Glazing with brushwork, slip-trail bottles, and the "peacock" technique. Classes are for adults 16 years old and older. All skill levels are welcome. Tuition includes all clay, glaze, firings and use of studio tools. Six 2-hour classes with an optional open studio hour each week from 4pm -5pm following class hours, starting in week 2.
